Artist’s Block?

I don’t know if I can call it an Artists Block because I’m not really an artist. I just color other peoples sketches and stuff. But I sort of hit a wall with nothing I was interested in. I started working on a Kazerad Katia, but honestly it was boring.

So I asked someone for something to work on. He sent me this so I colored it.

No, it’s not my best work obviously. And the style isn’t what I would call my favorite, but it got me over the hump and back to doing stuff again.

Fortunately partway through doing this I came across another artist that actively encourages people to line and color his sketches!

As for this one, I’m afraid I forget the character or artist. I’m sure someone will remind me and then I’ll update it.

I was gonna do the one on the left also, but there’s just too much missing. But I do like her expression anyway! I started linework on it before I gave up.  Yeah, she’s a bit too too (pendulous?) for my preference, but I can still see the appeal.

Valtik Roo Porn

Alas Valtik appears to have gone somewhat dormant.

Last FA Journal entry 2 years ago.
Most recent FA submission 7 months ago.
Most recent Tumblr post 4 months ago.

No response to my email asking if it’s okay to color his Roo drawings.

I’ll try to lay off them, but… I couldn’t help myself.

Warning – this isn’t cheesecake like most of my color jobs. No, this is just flat out furry porn. (But I think it’s GOOD furry porn anyway!)

Here’s the original by Valtik:

He’s got a fully nude version too, but I went with the “frantic-rip-the-clothes-and-get-the-Roo-butt” version for my color job.

In typical Tsunderoo fashion, she loves it and looks all frowny and pissed off at the same time. Why do I find that even hotter?

Anyway, I won’t do the layers thing. Here’s the final colored version.

I’m not going to go into detail on the content. That pretty much speaks for itself. But I did get some suggestions from another artist on this one. The green spandex with black edging was my idea, but originally I had the saturation up even higher than this. He suggested I tone it down a bit as it was blaring everything out of your eyes kinda green. Some suggestions on revising some shadows a bit. and some hair shading improvements. The rest you can blame on me (and Valtik of course!!! It was his idea!)

Background pretty simple but with a RL photo of an exercise mat.Seemed appropriate, even if the angle isn’t EXACTLY right for her pose.

I rather liked the little rip-strappy bit. 🙂

And, per Valtik himself, um… that’s… not… well, how can I put it delicately?

There is no concern about her getting pregnant (regardless of what species the male is or what time of the month it is). Yeah, that sounds better.

Anyway, I like it (obviously!) And when Valtik comes back, hope he does too.

At least I’m keeping up interest in his stuff while he’s away.

Audrey 2, Electric Boogaloo

Sorry, don’t know where that came from!

So, I wanted to try my shading technique on a butt instead of boobs. And I did kinda want to do another Audrey. She’s such a cutie! And so helpful too! Look at her picking up around the house when people KEEP leaving stuff on the floor.

image

(That’s by the Herny-man himself. I just think it’s too cute to not repost every once in a while)

Anyway, so I came across this which is pretty much perfect for what I wanted to do. By balooga on e621.

image

Yeah, she’s boobless here. But hey, for a change boobs aren’t even the focus! Frankly I thought about drawing a curved line to add them, but that’s kinda cheating the original artist. He wanted to draw her sans-boobs, so she should stay sans-boobs.

Obviously she’s sporting thigh-highs there, but when coloring it, I realized that those lines could easily be used for another purpose…

image

I turned em into water. 🙂 So now she’s hanging at the wading pool. Very COMFORTABLY hanging at the pool I’d say. Oddly, no one’s complaining. They just asked her to lift her tail a little bit. Not sure why.

****************************************

Slight edit by some people I highly respect. Primarily lightening of most sun-reflections, but also if you’re keen-eyed, a subtle bluish tint on butt and tail from the water.

Update – Artist (and character) Found! Yay!

So, that ‘Freya’ I colored the other day? Yeah… I didn’t think it looked like Freya. In fact, I think I even said it looked like a kangaroo to me.  Well, i was right anyway! Her name is Roo and artist is Valtik:

https://www.furaffinity.net/user/valtik

Even better, he’s got, like LOTS of gorgeous (naughty) drawings that I’d love to color! I won’t do any more, though, till I hear back from him that it’s okay to do so. I care about such things. Not all artists mind, but some do and I respect their preferences. But I sure hope he’s okay with it! Maybe I can lay off Guoh for awhile. So I hope you like the Roo because there will probably be more in the future!

And also, he’s here on Tumblr too:

So here’s another Roo sample to enjoy. Follow valtik (or valtiik – count those ‘i’s!)

bdnsfw:

APB out for the artist and character. I don’t know either, though I colored her based loosely on Freya – though I’m pretty sure it’s not.  Mostly more practice of my new boob-shading technique. Gotta find a good butt sketch next to see if the shading works as well there too.

Anyway, pretty hard to elaborate much on this picture when I know so little about the character so… what you see is what you get.

Here’s the original sketch:

Revisions due to suggestions by various people, all of whom were right.

I hate doing revisions after I’ve declared something as finished, but sometimes it’s really worth it.  Revisions include:

1. Shading in boob-valley. 100% improvement and gives a better 3d effect.

2. Removed shading at edges of arms. As someone pointed out, dark doesn’t “project” like that. Light does, but not darkness

3. Added boob-shading to inside of arms. Again, improves 3d and there would be shadows there anyway as evidenced by the dark directly under them.

4. Added blush as indicated by lines on cheeks.

I think I’ll reblog myself. I try not to do that, but it is a significant improvement based on suggestions.

Reblogging because some improvements were suggested and made. Every one a good suggestion I should have caught earlier.

UPDATE: Artist is Valtik and character is named Roo. Updated colors to match her canon colors. But I’m not going to repost since I already did once. Bottom image is final version with canon Roo colors.

Herny’s Audrey by Chingilin

First off, I really think this is the best work I’ve ever done. So yeah, I’m going to go through the process. But let’s talk first about Audrey. She’s a blind Argonian created by Herny some years ago.

http://hernyart.tumblr.com/ and NSFW: http://kindahornyart.tumblr.com/archive

I expect he thought she’d be a cute one-off character. Instead she’s sort of taken on a life of her own with tons of fanart etc. She’s even got a tumblr of her own!

https://the-audrey-fandom.tumblr.com/

I’ve been aware of her, being a big Argonianut. But recently I was searching for something new to color and someone suggested I try this:

That’s by Chingilin, based on the post at the Audrey Fandom site, made around Feb 4 2016 and termed a WIP. Normally I’d never do something that was being done by the original artist. However, when I went to Chinglilin’s DA site: https://chingilin.deviantart.com/ his last update was March of 2017. It references this Tumblr too: https://chingilinart.tumblr.com/ but the most recent post there was May of 2017. So I think it’s at least safe to say he’s gone inactive and is probably not working on this anymore. So I took up the mantle.

First I cleaned up the drawing and darkened the lines:

Then, of course, flat colors. TBH it wasn’t till I got to this step that I realized, “Hey! She’s laying down! This is a Dakimakura! (yeah, I’m slow that way.)

And then I got mad. I WANT to do super soft shading like Doomthewolf and MilesDF! But I’ve never managed it. I usually try by selecting a huge brush, hitting the softest possible settings, selecting the part I want to shade softly, and taking it from there. But it’s never looked right to my eyes.  Granted, I’m trying to do shading with a purple shade on a Multiply layer and not really using proper coloring techniques to do it.  But I still felt like it would still look good anyway if I could just get the shading right.

So last night I tried something different. I tried a curved gradient instead. One for each boob, one for the lower body, and a combination of gradients and my giant soft brus both for the arms, legs and tail. And some normal hard shading where I felt it was appropriate. This is the result…

THATS it! That’s what I’d been trying to do and failing! I don’t know if that’s how the ‘greats’ do it at all, but that’s what I wanted!  Now we’re cooking!!!  So the rest is more of what I’ve done before, though taking my time to complete each with enough patience to justify that transparent, curved gradient shading.

Here she is with hair shade and bed wrinkles in place.  But… I’m bluedraggy. I do shiny things.  Time to add some SHINE!

That… IMHO, is the best work I’ve ever done.  So far, of course. But I do feel like I’m finally improving again, and that gradient shading was the key to what I’ve always wanted to be able to do.

Apologies to Chingilin for doing that without asking, but it did seem clear he wasn’t going to finish it after 2 years, right? I do care about such things.

The Chimera (short story and Guoh pic)

image

Probably the oddest picture I’ve ever worked on. But as I was coloring it, I started dreaming up a scenario to explain how that scene could possibly happen – and turned it into a (very) short story to go along with my layers.

“I, Sir Knight, am a Chimera!” she declared.

“A Chimera? What’s that?”

“As you can clearly see, my body is composed of different creatures. Five in fact. Hence, I am magical and you would be well advised not to cross me. You cannot get to the treasure until you have completed my puzzle!”

“Yeah!” said the snake-tail. “She’ll turn you into stone!”

“Wait,” said the Knight, “I thought that was Medusa.”

“Well, she’ll turn PART of you into stone,” the snake conceded.

“Shut up snake,” she said reproachfully, “or I’ll sit on you again!”

OKAY! Jeeze Mally, I’m trying to help you out here!” it said.

“Mally eh?” the Knight said, smiling within his helm. “I know your name now, foul beast!”

“Dammit snake, you’ve done it again. Hold your tongue!”

“And I thought it was the Sphinx who required her question to be answered…”

“Not a question. A puzzle. There’s a difference!” she declared, a smug smile coming over her face.

“Bet you can’t name all five,” the serpent said. “If you can name all five, she’ll let you continue to the treasure!”

“SHUT UP EVIL SNAKE!” she said and tried to swat the head with a hand, but it easily moved aside.

“Missed me again,” it laughed.

“Is it true?” the knight asked the thing.

She sighed. “True enough. If you can name all five parts of me, you may pass.”

The Knight contemplated this.

“But if you fail, I will bring you bad luck for the rest of your life!”

“Is that true Snake?” the Knight asked.

“I doubt it. She’s not very magical,” it replied.

The lioness head roared, “SHUT THE HELL UP YOU TRAITOROUS TAIL!”

image

“Well,” the Knight began. “Obviously the serpent tail and the lioness body are two, right?”

She nodded. “Yes. Go on…”

“Your chest can only be that of a dragon, though those boobs look awfully human.”

The snake snickered, but the lioness grabbed it by a paw suddenly and sat on it. It’s muffled cries were barely audible.

“The dragon is correct… enough. I give you credit since you’ve probably never seen lizardfolk. And the breasts go with it.  But yeah, that’s close enough. That’s three.”

“The wings, those are tricky.  Bat-like, but that red color is like no bat I’ve ever seen. Could be a red dragon’s wings, but I doubt that would work when you already have the green scaly chest and hands of a dragon.”

“Lizardfolk,” she corrected.  "But no, Sir Knight, you are right. They are not of a dragon.“

"Well! That’s awfully kind of you to say, Miss Mally the Chimera. You’re pretty nice for a monster.”

She shrugged. “Don’t get much conversation down here.”

“Does a demon count as a creature?”

She sighed.  "Yes. My wings are that of a demoness. But you’ll never guess that last one!“

He looked her up and down, counting off each of the four creatures he’d guessed at in each part of her.

"So.. body of a lioness, right?”

She nodded.

“And the hands go with the chest, right? They’re not a different creature?”

“That’s correct.”

“The snake tail…” he continued, to which she again nodded.

“And the demon wings.  Are you SURE there’s five?”

She smiled. “Yes, Sir Knight. There ARE five.”

Suddenly the snake wriggled it’s way out from under her.  "Check out her pussy!“ it called.

The lioness roared again and began running around in circles, trying to bite the head off her own tail while it screamed in panic, though it was clearly impossible that she could ever gain on it.

"Hold Chimera!” the Knight shouted over the roars and the little squeaky scream.

Suddenly she stopped and fell over, dizzy.

“Let me see…”

“But… He told you! That’s cheating!”

“Come on, that’s not my fault. Let me see!”

“Goddamned snake,” she whined, but she stepped over to a nearby stone and bent over.

“Farther,” he said, and she growled but complied.

“Neat!”

image

“HUMAN!” he shouted.  "That’s the fifth creature isn’t it!“

She sighed again, and looked at her tail menacingly while answering, "Yes, Sir Knight. That is my fifth creature. You may proceed.”

The Knight stood up and stretched his legs. “Thank you, Mally the Chimera. As odd as you are, you’re not a bad sort.”

“Thanks, I guess,” she said as her eyes watched him go past.  Just beyond her, he reached the treasure chest. After checking for traps, he opened it. Within was nothing.

“Hey! There’s nothing in here!”

From down the trail, she shrugged. “Not my fault.”

“But you said if I answered your puzzle, I could get to the treasure!”

Oddly, she shot a warning glare at her own tail. “Not another word,” she hissed in a fair imitation of a serpent herself.

“What about that, snake? Where’s the treasure?” said the Knight, returning to where the Chimera sat looking around at anything except him.

“Snake?”

“He won’t tell you, Sir Knight,” the Chimera said. “But… I might.”

Suddenly the Knight became nervous as the Chimera rose and began to circle him, brushing against his legs like an overgrown cat.

“W… where’s the treasure?” he asked, his voice breaking a little now.

“Take off that helmet and I’ll tell you, good Sir Knight,” she purred.

“Why?” he asked, stepping back. But her tail tripped him up and he sat hard on the ground. Something behind him snickered.

“I just want to see you, Sir Knight. It gets awfully lonely down here, even for a magical creature. Won’t you let me see your face?”

The Knight removed his helm.

“Oh, you are a handsome man!” the Chimera said, and stepped on his chest, pushing him to the floor.

“B…but… the treasure!” he said, backing away.

The Chimera put her head very close beside the Knight’s and whispered…

“You’ve already seen the treasure, good Sir Knight.”

The snake repeated her words, “You’ve already seen it! You’ve already seen it!”

The Knight looked seriously at the Chimera, who looked at her snake-tail, then back to the Knight with a forlorn look.

“Did you bring any tape with you?” she asked.

Guoh Freya by Night

Decided to give this one a night-vibe. Original by Guoh –

image

After flat colors. Obviously removed most of Guoh’s shading to replace with my own. I also have to admit to rounding out her butt a bit. I don’t normally do that sort of thing. I know he was going for the skinny-rat style here, but her butt just seemed a little TOO angular. Couldn’t quite comprehend what was going on around her feet – lower legs either so I simplified those.

image

Gloss, highlights and shade. But I decided I’d like this to be a night scene, so just one sharp shade layer and pretty dark.

image

And then a nice night background.  Followed a tutorial honestly, but I still think it turned out pretty much how I had in mind.

image

She doesn’t look like someone you’d want to meet late at night actually. At least, not when she’s pissed off because someone stole her clothes.

I was futzing with different adjustments though and came up with this.  Which I think I actually like better than the final above in an artistic way.
